Undergraduate Research Assistants
We are always looking for motivated, responsible students to become involved with the lab and participate in the research projects! RAs can expect to gain hands-on experince, being involved in taks ranging from data collection and literature reviews to data entry/analysis and manuscript preparation. Students who have been an RA for several semesters may have the opportunity to carry out their own projects in the lab and can receive assistance with graduate school applications and career choices.
Research assistants participate in the lab for course credit (HDFS 494/496/497). RAs are expected to contribute between six and nine hours to the lab each week (the timing of these hours may be flexible) for at least two semesters. RAs are also expected to attend weekly lab meetings.

Prospective Graduate Students
Accepting Applicants for Fall 2021!
Dr. Fredman is accepting students for admission to the Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) doctoral program at Penn State University in the Fall of 2021. Students who work in Dr. Fredman's lab gain exposure to research on couple and family adapt under stressful conditions (e.g., trauma, individual mental health difficulties, discrimination and other forms of environmental stress), along with a variety of research methods that can be used to investigate these topics (e.g., intensive longitudinal data analysis, dyadic data analysis). Admitted students are fully funded by the program and are generally supported through a mix of teaching and research assistantships, along with competitive University and externally funded fellowships. The HDFS program incorporates a balanced schedule of coursework and independent research, and past graduates have gone on to both academic positions and applied research positions. Click below for more information about the Penn State HDFS program and the application procedures for the department. Feel free to email Dr. Fredman with any additional questions.
